Welcome to AICRP HB&P

The National Commission on Agriculture in 1976 recommended the starting of a project entitled "All India Coordinated Project on Honeybee Research & Training" keeping in view the potential role of honeybees as pollinators. The project was launched by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research during 1980-81. Project started functioning at different locations with its Project Coordinating unit located at Central Bee Research & Training Institute (CBRTI), Pune with objectives to coordinate, counsel and monitor the activity of cooperating centers. The P C unit later shifted to CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana in 1987-88 and based on the recommendations of QRT it was relocated to Division of Entomology, IARI, New Delhi in October 2013. The Project started initially with six centers including one in ICAR institute. Five more centers were added under AICRP on Honeybee Research and Training during 1983. There were nine university based coordinating centers during the X five year plan. Emphasizing the role of non Apis bees, other insects and animals in yield enhancement of several cross pollinated crops the current project has been up scaled during the XIth plan period (2008-2012) with a new name as All India Coordinated Research Project on Honey bees and Pollinators in July, 2007. Five more SAU based regular centers and two SAU based voluntary centers were added during XI plan period. Further in XIIth plan two voluntary centers were upgraded to regular centers and three more regular centers were started at Kashmir (Jammu and Kasmir), Nagrota Bhagwan (Himachal Pradesh) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) and Seven voluntary centers (4 in SAU+ 2 ICAR institutes + 1 NGO) centers were sanctioned.
